Lernaean Hydra

Name: Lernaean Hydra

Features: Serpent with one large head and eight smaller ones

Source: Greek Mythology

Habitat: Lerna, Greece

The Lernaean Hydra was the ultimate, vicious and gigantic water serpent.

It was extremely ferocious and its largest head was immortal.

All nine heads bore sharp razor like fangs that were continuously filled with and overflowed of deadly venom.

Their breath was extremely poisonous and could kill all living things in its territory.

Its eight smaller heads could be injured in battle, but every time one of them was severed, two more would grow in their place.

Most battle wounds this monster could suffer only ended up making it stronger against its opponent.

Being the offspring of Echidna and Typhon , this horrendous serpent was born to hate humans.

It made itself a home near the village of Lerna, blocking the way to the only water source.

Hercules finally put an end to this monstrosity with the help of his companion, Iolaus. Every time Hercules severed one of its heads, Iolaus would sear the flesh to prevent another set of heads from growing in its place.

Hercules then buried the remaining immortal head deep underground.
