Pegasus

Name: Pegasus

Features: Splendid white horse with wings

Source: Greek Mythology

Habitat: Greece

Pegasus is the very popular and magnificent winged horse. He is usually described as being white in color.

He was born along with his brother Chrysaor, from droplets of blood that dripped from Medusa’s severed head when she was decapitated by the mighty Perseus.

Perseus rode this beautiful mythical creature while returning home from his victorious battle over the gorgon.

On his trip back he came across Andromeda who was chained by the sea awaiting her fate as a sacrifice to the dreadful sea creature Cetus.

As Cetus came for his maiden, Perseus held up Medusa’s severed head and turned the sea serpent into stone. He was then able to free Andromeda from her bindings and rescue her.

Famous Greek hero Bellerophon captured this divine horse near the fountain Peirene with the help of Poseidon and Athena.

He then rode him to defeat the unbeatable and fearsome three headed monster, the Chimera.

After many adventures, Zeus transformed this divine horse into a constellation and placed him in the sky.
